TRAVERSE CITY- The Alpena football team trailed Traverse City West by just six points late in the fourth quarter on Friday, but couldn’t score a game-tying touchdown and ultimately walked away with a 36-22 loss.

Tyler Pintar threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Smith with 4:30 left in the game to pull the game to within six points, 28-22. Octavian Waugh put West ahead for good though with a 22-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion with 1:24 left.

Pintar was 23-of-44 passing for 301 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Smith had 96 yards on five catches with two scores. Josh Bell had 126 yards on seven receptions with one touchdown.

Alpena (1-4, 0-3) trailed 13-7 at halftime after Pintar hit Smith with a 16-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. West added a touchdown in the third quarter and both teams scored 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Bell’s touchdown came on a 16-yard catch with 11:37 left in the fourth quarter.

On the ground, Jordan Ferguson had 40 yards on 14 carries for Alpena and Pintar added 29 yards on six carries.

Alpena plays at Cheboygan next Friday.

Posen 62, Bellaire 14

POSEN-Posen’s homecoming football game couldn’t have gone any better on Friday as the Vikings upset the previously undefeated Bellaire 62-14.

“These guys were the second-best team in eight-man last year. They were two points away from winning the state championship. To come out and beat them like that really sends a message to the league,” Posen coach Wayne Karsten said.

The Vikings did much of their damage in the first quarter, jumping out to a 21-0 lead. They continued to pull ahead at the half, with a 34-8 lead.

Posen only scored one touchdown in the third quarter, to go up 41-8, outscored Bellaire 21-6 in the final quarter.

“It was just absolute domination on every aspect of the game,” Karsten said.

Nick Hincka had a big night, picking up 412 yards on 35 carries with four touchdowns.

Brandon Dietz also had a big night, picking up 419 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns. Travis Sharpe had two touchdowns, one rushing and the other a receiving touchdown.

Posen is now 3-2 and hosts Engadine next week.

No football scores were reported from Rogers City, Onaway and Atlanta.
