FIFE LAKE-The Onaway volleyball team overcame a slow start and improved to 3-0 in Ski Valley Conference play with a win over Forest Area in four sets on Tuesday.

The Cardinals won 26-24, 14-25, 25-12 and 25-15.

“We had a bit of a slow start. They (Forest Area) is down a little bit, but they still know how to play us,” Onaway coach Steve Watson said.

Mariah Ehrke led Onaway with 15 kills and 14 digs; Lexi Szymoniak had 12 kills, three aces, 20 digs and two blocks; Taylor Ehrke had 33 assists, two aces and 12 digs; Devin Bristley had eight kills, four aces and 11 digs and Sara Fullerton had five kills, four aces and 18 digs.

Onaway is 23-4-1 overall and plays at Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday.

Alcona 3, Hale 0

LINCOLN-Offense led the way for the Alcona volleyball team on Tuesday as the Tigers defeated Hale in three sets, 25-8, 25-10 and 25-10.

“They played very consistent,” Alcona coach Kristi Arnold said.

Karina Cole led Alcona with 11 kills and eight digs. Sam Zerbst, Kalie Zerbst and Cole had five aces each and Kalie Zerbst added nine assists.

Alcona plays at Mio on Thursday.

Rogers City 3, Fairview 0

FAIRVIEW-The Rogers City volleyball team made short work of Fairview on Tuesday, sweeping the Eagles in three sets, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-12.

“We played really good tonight and played to our level,” Rogers City coach Jackie Quaine said.

Cassie Brege had 12 assists for the Hurons; Megan Quaine added three kills and three aces; Jena Tulgestke had two blocks, six kills and seven aces; Alexa Quaine had four aces, four kills and five digs and Sara Meredith chipped in with four aces.

Hillman 3, Oscoda 1

OSCODA-The Hillman volleyball team earned another North Star League win on Tuesday, topping Oscoda in four sets, 25-16, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-19.

Jensen Tchorzynski led Hillman with 17 kills and 18 digs. Alissa Jones added nine kills and Riley Appelgren had 31 assists.
