Glass artist shares talents at Tendercare Greenview

Not everyone can look at an old bowling ball and see it as a canvas for a glass art project, but that’s what Tina Montgomery, owner of My Glass Wings in downtown Alpena, has done.

She hasn’t kept her bowling ball turned gazing ball vision to herself either, but has been sharing it with about a dozen residents at Tendercare Greenview where she volunteers and leads a weekly craft project.

“We haven’t glued anyone to anything yet,” joked Montgomery, who celebrates the 10th anniversary of her stained glass-making shop this year.

According to Marlene Diem, life enrichment director at Tendercare, the residents are really enjoying the project as well a decorative flower pot Montgomery helped them to create earlier in the summer. Next up is a project for Christmas.

“We keep really busy here and try to offer a variety of activities from crafts to bingo and sing-alongs,” Diem said. “It’s great to have the public come in and volunteer. All volunteers are welcome.”
