LINCOLN-There wasn’t much Au Gres could do to stop the Alcona football team on Friday.

Backed 524 rushing yards on just 34 carries, the Tigers ran over the Wolverines 54-0 at home to post their second straight shutout.

Alcona (2-0) beat Atlanta 51-0 in its opener last week.

“We’ve been working hard in practice. Coach (Dave) Schneider is doing a great job with the offensive line and the running backs,” Alcona assistant coach Terry Franklin said. “Our motto is to get better every day and that’s what we’re doing.”

The Tigers held a 21-0 lead at the half and added 26 points in the third quarter for a 47-0 lead.

Nathan Fettes led Alcona’s charge with 159 yards on seven carries with two touchdowns. Cody Franklin added 130 yards on five carries with three scores.

Garrette Norling had 85 yards on eight carries with two scores and Josh Mead added 94 yards on eight carries.

Alcona plays at Rogers City next week.

East Jordan 42,

Hillman 26

EAST JORDAN- The Hillman football team fell behind 35-14 at halftime against East Jordan on Friday and spent the rest of the game playing catch-up before losing 42-26.

“We came out and played slow like we were intimidated,” Hillman coach Bill Koenig said. “At halftime, I told them. ‘This team isn’t any bigger, stronger or tougher than any team we’re going to see all year.’ We came out and played better, we went back to our pro set, but it was a little too late.”

Kenny Kolcan led Hillman (1-1) on the ground with 81 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Mason VanPamel had seven catches for 67 yards and two scores. Quarterback Ty Jones was 12-of-21 passing for 139 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Koenig also gave credit to the Tigers’ offensive line, which he said kept Hillman in the game.

“Our offensive line (players) are the ones who kept us in the game all night,” Koenig said.

Hillman plays at Au Gres next week.

Rapid River 64, Posen 26

RAPID RIVER-Despite a 14-14 tie at after one quarter of play, the Posen football team fell behind at halftime against Rapid River on Thursday and couldn’t keep up, losing to the Rockets 64-26.

Posen opened the scoring on the second play of the game as Brandon Dietz ran 71 yards for a score to give Posen a 6-0 lead.

Dietz followed with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Travis Sharpe who also caught the the two- point conversion 14-8.

Rapid River held a 42-14 lead at the half and a 50-20 lead after three quarters. Nick Hincka added a three-yard touchdown run.

In the fourth quarter, Dietz added a 50-yard touchdown pass to Sharpe to make the score 58-26.

Dietz had 13 carries for 207 yards and was 4-of-6 passing for 151 yards. Sharpe had three catches for 141 yards.

John Zaborney led Posen’s defense with 15 tackles and Hincka and Sharpe each had 14.
