Library to kick off Summer Book Club

Alpena County Library has exciting plans for Alpena kids this summer, as Summer Book Club plans get under way.

The library has hosted a summer reading program for children for over 20 years, and children’s Librarian Mary Clute said that it’s a community effort.

“We are very fortunate to have a great group of volunteers that really make our Summer Book Club something to be proud of,” Clute said. “The children have a wonderful time and keep up their reading skills during the summer. The enthusiasm of our volunteers makes it a fun time to be around the library.”

Clute notes that the theme for this year’s book club will be Dig Into Reading.

“We’ll have fun activities every week at the library, getting kids excited about reading and coming into the Library,” she said.

Summer Book Club is open to children ages 3-12 and sign up begins on June 18 at 9:30 a.m. The first day of activities will be celebrated with a magic show at 10 a.m. and a $1 hot dog lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
