Future of ACES building uncertain
ALPENA – Alpena Public Schools Property Committee decided against replacing the roof at ACES Academy, and will be patching the roof to help alleviate the leaks currently causing problems at the school.
“There are downpours in the entry way and buckets in the halls, entry ways, and classrooms,” Facilities director Mike Gagnon said. “We’ve had to disconnect light fixtures because of the water.”
The committee discussed the roof replacement, but decided against it, citing the possible move of ACES into a different facility.
“If there’s the potential of moving, we don’t need to spend the money to fix it,” superintendent Brent Holcomb said. “We can’t make a move before fall. We’ll patch it and get by with what we can for now and keep band-aiding the roof.”
The committee also discussed the sale of the Long Rapids School building, and will be looking at options such as a commercial property listing with a Realtor, splitting the land available for sale, and bid options. No definite decision was reached as to which method the committee will most likely use.
