The Alpena softball team improved to 19-10 on the season with a pair of wins over Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, winning 6-2 and 8-3.
Corinn Gehrke earned the win for the Wildcats in the opener, pitching a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out seven.
Alpena scored three runs in the first inning. Jenna VanDusen scored on a fielding error. Brenna Bourdage was singled in by Caten Teff and Teff later scored on another fielding error.
Sault scored a run in the first inning and briefly held the lead.
Alpena added two more runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth inning when Bourdage was singled in by Teff.
Teff finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Alex Peters earned the win for the Wildcats in the nightcap, scattering four hits and striking out seven.
The game was called after five innings due to darkness.
Alpena scored a pair of runs in the second inning after Abby MacArthur singled in Peters and later came around to score on another fielding error by the Blue Devils.
Sault scored a run in the third inning before Alpena blew the game open with a six-run fourth inning. Shannon Kapala had a two-run single in the inning and Elise Leeck added an RBI single.
Sault added two runs in the fifth inning before the game was called.
Alpena hosts a Division 1 district on Saturday and will play Traverse City Central at noon in a semifinal game.
Rogers City 32,
ROGERS CITY-The Rogers City softball team (28-6) picked up a big 32-0 predistrict win against Alanson on Tuesday to move on to the next round of districts on Saturday.
Nikki Radke pitched for two rinnings and struck out four while Logan Fleming pitched the last inning in the three inning mercy game and struck out two.
Morgan Hall picked up three hits, including a double and a grand slam home run. Fleming helped out with four hits and a home run. Nikkie LaLonde picked up three hits including a double and a triple. Alexa Quaine hit two, including a double. Rebecca Meredith had two hits as did Jessica Butera, Cassie Breggie and Sarah Meredith. Courtney Streich picked up a double.
Rogers City play against Onaway at noon on Saturday. The Hurons record this regular season made them co-champs of the Straits Area Conference with Cheboygan.

ROGERS CITY-The Hurons baseball team (12-18) won its predistrict game against Alanson on Tuesday in wet and rainy conditions to move on to Saturday’s district play, where the Hurons open at 10 a,m, against Onaway.
Paul Wilbert got the win on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout while allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out 11.
Wilbert also led offensively with two hits and an RBI. Jacob Malocha, Quintin Kelly, Evan Lamb and Casey Szatkowski picked up hits for Rogers City.
Kelly scored off a Wilbert single in the first inning while Malocha was driven in by Wilbert in the third. Szatkowski picked up a double and scored off an error.
