AU GRES-The Hillman baseball team improved to 16-3 on the season with a pair of North Star League wins over Au Gres on Monday, 4-3 and 11-0.
Ty Jones was Hillman’s winning pitcher in the opener, allowing three runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts in six innings.
Dylan Steinke was 1-for-3 with an RBI triple for the Tigers and Mason VanPamel was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kyle Henigan had another sharp performance in the nightcap, allowing four hits while striking out eight. He was also 1-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.
Jordan Mutschler was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and scored two runs; Michael Klein was 3-for-4 with an RBI and also scored two runs; Dylan Ross had two hits and an RBI and Steinke had two hits.
Hillman plays next Monday at Fairview.
Hale 4-8, Posen 2-2
HALE-The Hale baseball team swept Posen on Monday to pick up two more wins. The Eagles won the first game 4-2 and the second 8-2.
The first game’s winning pitcher was Brian Richardson. He pitched six innings. He gave up both runs and also gave up two hits, struck out 11 and gave up five walks.
Kelby Chrivia hit one and picked up an RBI. Richardson drove in two off of one hit. Hunter Boylen also picked up a hit and an RBI.
Hale was down 2-0 after Posen picked up two hits in the top of the third, but picked up all four of their runs in the bottom of the third for the win.
Chrivia picked up a no-hitter in the second, giving up two unearned runs, striking out six, walking six and hitting one batter.
Hale’s offense was especially effective in this second game as Richardson hit two and drove in two and Boylen hit two, drove in two and scored twice himself. Travis Pript got two hits and an RBI while Jamie Balbaugh also picked up a hit.
Hale is now 3-13 overall and 3-5 in the North Star League. The Eagles travel to Oscoda today.
WHITTEMORE-The Alcona baseball team improved to 12-5 on the season and 7-1 in Huron Shores Conference play after a split with Whittemore-Prescott on Monday.
Alcona was limited to two hits in the opener and lost 7-0. Cody Franklin pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits and five runs with eight strikeouts. Joe Hudgins pitched the next two innings and allowed three hits. Chad Cole pitched the last inning and allowed one hit.
Franklin and Austin Richardson had a hit each for Alcona.
Alcona rebounded to win the second game 9-8. Nathan Fettes pitched the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits. Hudgins pitched to one batter in the fifth inning for an out and then Franklin came in to close, striking out two in the sixth inning.
Fettes was 3-for-3 including two doubles and Franklin had a double.
Alcona will play at Hillman today.
Posen 23-20, Hale 0-0
HALE-The Posen softball team picked up two more North Star League wins on Monday, routing Hale 23-0 and 20-0.
Ashley Meyers and Taylor Chojnacki each earned a win on the mound for Posen 14-2, 10-0 NSL)
Posen plays at Onaway today.
Au Gres 2-3
AU GRES-The Au Gres softball team hosted Hillman on Monday and were swept in two games 13-2 and 11-3.
Jensen Tchorzynski pitched six innings for Hillman struck out 14 batters in the opener. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Arielle Barrie, Kalen Tchorzynski, Alyssa Abledinger, Eden Hunt and Morgan Hardies all picked up a single. Abledinger had an RBI, Hardies knocked in two and Hunt picked up three of her own.
The second game featured Jensen pitching three innings and striking out three. Kalen came in for the rest of the game.
Barrie went 3-for-4, including a double and an RBI. Taylor Crawford hit two singles. Jensen hit a single, Kalen hit a single and a double while Bryce Kenyon and Abledinger both hit a single and knocked in a run each.
Hillman is now 13-3 and is undefeated in the North Star League. The Tigers play at Fairview on Monday and host Posen on Thursday.
WHITTEMORE- The Whittemore-Prescott softball team picked up two wins from Alcona in Huron Shores Conference action on Monday, winning 13-3 and 18-3.
Kendra Cole took the loss for Alcona, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and five walks with two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Cassie Carpenter was 1-for-2 with a single and run scored and Marisa Hirschfelt was 2-for-3 with a single and double and an RBI
Alissa Terpstra suffered the loss in the nightcap, allowing nine earned runs, two hits and 13 walks with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
Carpenter was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Alcona 5th at Bobcat Invite
The Alcona boys golf team finished fifth out of 12 teams at the Bobcat Invitational on Monday, finishing with a score of 345.
Walker Kelly led Alcona with an 81, Lucas Weichel fired an 82, Josh Mead finished with an 86, Dustin Yokom had a 96 and Spencer Winningham had a 97.
