FENTON-The Alpena JV softball team took a thrilling pair of wins from Fenton on Friday to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Alpena won the opener 6-5 in the eighth inning on an international tiebreaker. Jordan Modrzynski scored the winning run.
Lauren Heath pitched Alpena to a complete-game win, allowing three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.
Allison Heise was 2-for-3, Rhea Niergarth was 3-for-4 with a double and Mykayla Price was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Alpena broke a 7-7 tie in the fifth inning after Alexis Smith laid down an RBI bunt and scored Heath to give Alpena an 8-7 win.
Madison Amlotte started for Alpena and was later relieved by Heath.
Modrzynski, Niergarth and Amelia Teff each went 2-for-3.
Alpena will play at a tournament in Howell today.

Thunder Bay wins in Cheboygan
CHEBOYGAN-The Thunder Bay Junior High track team won a five-team meet in Cheboygan on Wednesday, finishing with 116 points, ahead of Sault Ste. Marie (103), Cheboygan (87), St. Ignace (44) and Rogers City (2).
Mitchell Day broke his own record in the 3200 run finishing in 10:57.1 His previous record was 11 minutes. Day also won the 800 run (2:23.5).
Other winners for Thunder Bay were: Isaac Cross in the 1600 run (5:17.8); Alex Arch in the high jump (4-10); Kelton Schlueter in the long jump (15-11 1/2); the 800 relay team of Arch, Michael Clark, Evan LeTourneau and Bennett Speaks (1:50.1) and the 3200 relay team of Cross, Day, Dallin Toth and Hunter Tolsdorf (10:39.1).
Second-place finishes for Thunder Bay were: Cross in the 3200 run (11:36.2); Arch in the 400 dash (1:01.9); Clark in the 70 dash (9.4); Schlueter in the 200 hurdles (31.56); Alec LeTourneau in the 200 dash (27.3) and the pole vault (9-0) and the 400 relay team of Clark, Alec LeTourneau, Evan LeTourneau and Christian Stevens (55.3).
Third-place finishes went to: Evan LeTourneau in the 70 dash (9.1); Trevor Roznowski in the shot put (34-1 1/2); Jacob Vought and Schlueter in the high jump (4-6); the 1600 relay team of Speaks, Christian Szatkowski, Tallin and Tolsdorf (4:45.9).
Thunder Bay will be in East Jordan Monday for a relay meet.
