A story of wealth and poverty side by side

An incident brought to my attention deserves to be published, I believe, to make us all aware of the person or persons we may have sat next to in church.

A young man sits with his head held high, not knowing where his next meal or drink will come from, when the collection basket passes to a woman next to him. She asked the usher to wait while she flips through her several 50 dollar bills in her purse, saying something so the homeless man can’t help but see and hear her frustration at having the 50s. Finally she finds a five and two single dollar bills. She ended up putting the two dollars in the basket as the young man next to her is starving, yet too proud to make his suffering known. Thus, the irony of poverty and wealth side by side on Easter Sunday.
