Teens arrested on two charges
ALPENA – Three Alpena area teens were arrested in connection with a robbery and assault that took place early Wednesday morning in Alpena Township.
At 4:21 a.m. the Alpena Police Department was dispatched to an unknown car accident on Misery Bay Road near Wessel Road. As officers were arriving on scene two subjects took off running. One subject was apprehended, and officers were unable to locate the second subject.
About 20 minutes later, central dispatch sent deputies, Alpena Township Fire Department and Alpena City Ambulance to a residence in Alpena Township a few miles from the car accident on an assault and battery complaint. Officers on scene of the car accident conducted a preliminary interview and confirmed the subjects in the car had committed a home invasion, armed robbery, assault, and tied up the home owner.
It was determined the homeowner was beaten with blunt objects. Due to the severity of his injuries, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab was called to assist at the scene. The victim was transported to Saginaw St. Mary’s Hospital and the condition is unknown.
It is believed the motive behind the crime was to steal marijuana and prescription medication from the homeowner.
Officers were able to identify two other individuals involved. Officers from the Alpena County Sheriff Department, APD, Huron Undercover Narcotics Team, Michigan State Police detectives, and the K-9 unit assisted with the apprehension of three males from the Alpena area.
Those involved were a 17-year-old who is on circuit court juvenile probation, a 19-year-old who is on circuit court probation, and a 19-year-old who is on parole. Names of the victim and the suspects are being withheld at this time.
The suspects were charged with home invasion first degree, armed robbery, and assault with intent to commit murder. The investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
