Holiday Inn to drop franchise, adopt sanctuary theme

ALPENA – Holiday Inn of Alpena will be changing its name to “The Sanctuary Inn and Conference Center” in mid July. After 34 years of serving as the Holiday Inn, the popular hotel will no longer be part of the Holiday Inn franchise.

The branding of Alpena as the “Sanctuary of the Great Lakes: Marine, Body and Soul” helped the management team select the new name.

“We felt it would be very fitting to have a Sanctuary Inn in the Sanctuary City of the Great Lakes,” General Manager Diana LaMarre said.

Despite the name change, Sneakers and CW’s restaurant will remain the same.

“Everything we’ve been offering the community for the last 34 years will still be available to them. The hotel has not been sold, we still have the same owners,” LaMarre said. “We will be an independent hotel with the same employees and the same great service. We have recently resurfaced the pool area and added some new carpet in our guest room corridors.”

Community members can look for The Sanctuary Inn and Conference Center’s new logo to appear in front of the building around July 17 after the Holiday Inn sign has been removed.
