ACC receives donations for lights, general fund

ALPENA – The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees approved a resolution to contract with Kendall Electric and purchase lighting fixtures for the college with a cost not to exceed $37,994.51. The fixtures will be new LED lights for the parking lots and perimeter lights, as well as 20 new fluorescent lights for WCCT High Bay.

“These lights will improve the safety of our parking lots,” Chairman John Briggs said. “The lighting with the LED’s will be much brighter.”

The board also approved a first reading of the new Mission, Visions, and Values statements drafted by the trustees in a retreat session. These new statements will be proposed to the public for feedback, and revisited at the next meeting for confirmation.

In other business:

gifts and grants accepted with appreciation by the college between February and March totaled $20,829 from 87 different donors

the board expressed its appreciation to Joseph Klemens for his role as director of the Upward Bound program

three students were named to the 2013 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team based on their academic achievement, community service involvement, and leadership accomplishment
