Hillman 71, Atlanta 56

ROGERS CITY-The Hillman boys basketball team stretched its winning streak to seven with a 71-56 win over Atlanta in a class D district semifinal on Wednesday.

This win was the Tigers’ third over Atlanta this season and their 17th in a row against the Huskies.

Hillman ended the first quarter up 23-16 while the half ended with Hillman ahead 38-20. The third quarter ended with Hillman up 52-40.

“They got pretty close in the third. They were about eight or nine points down. We got a little sloppy in the third and Atlanta took advantage of that,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said.

Top scorers for Hillman included Mason VanPamel with a career-high 38 points. He also contributed nine steals and five assists. Ty Jones had 18 points, four steals and six assists while Hunter Fessler added eight points.

Atlanta’s top scorer was Garrett Badgero with 17 points and Jacob Chambers added 12.

“We got Chambers into foul trouble early in the second which gave us the chance to go on a 15-4 run. That really helped put us up in the game. We tended to score in spurts tonight, 6-0 and 8-0 runs that were a little overwhelming for Atlanta. Speed was the key tonight,” Muszynski said.

Hillman is now 15-5 on the season and will face Posen in the district final on Friday.

“Posen’s been on a hot streak lately and we’ve been on a hot streak lately. It’ll be a good old fashioned North Star League showdown,” Muszynski said.
