3 ACC XC runners named Academic All Americans

Three Alpena Community College cross country runners-Katie Brownell, Andrew Sumerix and Janell Timm- have been recognized as 2012 Academic All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association Cross Country Coaches Association.

The honors come after ACC finished ninth out of 12 teams in the region in its first year of competition. The program was revived last fall after a prolonged absence and eight runners competed for the Lumberjacks under coach Mark Jacobs.

“Despite the fact that half the team had never run more than four miles, I could not have asked for a better group of individuals to build the foundation for great things to come,” Jacobs said.
