Students learn the value of hard work
ALPENA – All Saints Catholic School held a breakfast at the Alpena Knights of Columbus last month to raise funds for its hot lunch program. The fundraiser was a big success and offered a unique community service opportunity for the students.
“The breakfast kicked off Catholic Schools Week,” Principal Nicole Hatch said. “It helped promote our motto that Catholic schools raise the standards.”
Treasurer Tom Pelleran and breakfast chairman and Trustee Pat Gapske were on had to represent the Knights and present the check to the school on Tuesday. Roy and Sally Wekwert, co-chairs, also helped with the fundraiser.
All Saints and the Knights of Columbus have been working together for the annual breakfast fundraiser for nine years, and every year it has been a great success.
“The Knights have been great helping us with the breakfast every year,” Hatch said.
There were over 350 people who attended this year’s breakfast and over $4,000 was raised. During Catholic Schools Week other fundraisers included a unique American Girl doll clothes sale, with clothes made by one of the parents, and a small bake sale.
