MSP post seeking second detective

ALPENA – The Michigan State Police Alpena Post is looking to add a second detective sergeant.

The results of a study looking at crime statistics and the caseload coming into the Alpena post showed the need for a second detective sergeant, post Commander First Lt. Mike Hahn said. The decision to add a detective also took a departmental reorganization in 2012 that added two counties to the Alpena post’s area.

“Currently, we have one detective sergeant assigned to the actual Alpena post,” he said. “We also have detectives that are currently assigned to other posts that are responsible for investigations in two of our counties.”

Michigan State Police officers assigned to the Alpena post cover Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle counties, Hahn said. The post picked up Montmorency and Oscoda counties through the reorganization.

“Those five counties constitute 3,029 square miles, so you can certainly see the need,” he said.
