Prep Roundup (2-13-13)

CHEBOYGAN-The Alpena Wildcat hockey team travelled to Cheboygan on Wednesday and came up with a big 8-1 win.

“The team play was solid on all three lines. Brett (LeTourneau) was really solid in the net,” Alpena head coach Pete Doubek said.

Zach Nash led his team with three goals.

Sam Rumbels, Karsten Alexander, Jared Plume, Jared Kwiatkowski and Zach Kendziorski all picked up a goal.

Kwiatkowski and Rumbles had three assists a piece.



Posen 71, Hale 17

POSEN The Vikings girls basketball team hosted Hale on Wednesday and came up with a huge victory.

“Our pressure got to them early.?We took a 30-2 lead in the first quarter, which gave our bench players a chance to play. We played everybody a lot tonight,”?Posen head coach Karl Momrik said.

The first quarter saw Posen take the aforementioned 30-2 lead. The second quarter ended with Posen up 47-7.

The third quarter slowed down for Posen as they stretched their lead to 53-10. The game finally ended with Hale’s best quarter, narrowing the lead to 71-17.

Korynn Hincka of Posen had 24 points. Ashley Meyers had 12 as did Jenna Hincka.

Hale’s?Kate Brent had six points.

Posen is now 18-0 overall and if they win against Hillman tomorrow will ahve a perfect 14-0 North Star League record.


Schoolcraft 87, ACC 83

SCHOOLCRAFT-The Lumberjack men travelled to Schoolcraft and almost overcame a 26 point first half deficit but couldn’t catch up in overtime.

“The guys played really well, they fought hard to overcome that huge lead and it all came down to the last few minutes,”?ACC men’s assistant coach?Bobby Allen said.

Top scorers for ACC included Lavario Smith with a 28 point, 17 rebound double-double. Kharri Dailey hit 19 points while Will Gates hit 14. Sean Berryman contributed 10 of his own points.

Richmond Jackson of Schoolcraft picked up his own double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

This lost takes them to 6-18 overall and 3-11 in the Eastern Conference. ACC hosts Henry?Ford Community?College on Saturday at 5:30 in the “Hoops for?Hope”?pink game.


Schoolcraft 77, ACC 63

SCHOOLCRAFT The ACC women basketball team came out hard against Schoolcraft but couldn’t sustain their first half lead.

“They came out and played really well in the first half and were leading but Schoolcraft was able to fight back. The girls played hard and they never gave up and?I’m proud of them,”?ACC women’s head coach?Bobby Allen said.

Amy Nowak picked up a big double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Lauren Siebert picked up 13 points of her own while?Whitney Frazier hit 10.

Toi Brown of Schoolcraft and Ajai Meeks both picked up 18.

This loss takes ACC?to 5-18 overall and 1-13 in the Eastern Conference. They host Henry Ford Community College on?Saturday at 7:30 in the?”Hoops for?Hope”?pink game.
