Alpena raised naturalist, Baker, brings exotic animals to Ella White

Ella White School students had a day of fun, and an opportunity to learn about and touch wildlife on Tuesday. Owner Randy Baker of Naturalist Endeavors taught and entertained students in smaller groups by grade levels, while introducing a variety of animals during a mix of science, wildlife, and history assemblies.

“Randy Baker is a naturalist originally from the Alpena area,” Principal Melissa Shaedig, said. “He did sessions for each grade level, with great information about North American animals and ecosystem.”

Some of the animals highlighted during the assembly sponsored by the Ella White PTO included a tarantula, pigeon, opossum, salamander, alligator, snakes, and turtles. Baker discussed lifecycles, adaptations, animal behaviors, habitats, ecosystems, and other facts. He spent Tuesday at Ella White, but will be heading to other schools in the district throughout the week.
