FAIRVIEW-Korynn Hincka had a record-setting night on Thursday.
Posen’s junior center scored 22 points in the Vikings 71-35 win over Fairview to break Posen’s career scoring record. The previous record of 1,393 points was held by Lisa Wekwert and Hincka’s career total now stands at 1,408.
“It’s a testimonial to a lot of hard work. It couldn’t happen to a nicer kid,” Posen coach Karl Momrik said.
Ashley Meyers scored 15 points and Bev Bednarski chipped in with 11 points for the Vikings (15-0, 10-0 North Star) who used their trademark full-court press to wear down the Eagles.
“They’re press, what are you going to do?” Fairview coach Marc Winton said. “The pressure and Korynn in the middle, makes you play a little quicker and makes you do a lot more.”
Posen led 32-12 at the half and outscored Fairview 21-11 in the third quarter.
Logan Winton led Fairview (3-9, 3-6 NSL) with 17 points and Johnna Weidbrauk added nine.
Fairview plays Monday at Oscoda while Posen plays next Friday at Arenac Eastern.
Mio 58, Atlanta 19
ATLANTA-Jalen DeFlorio had a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds and the Mio girls basketball team defeated Atlanta 58-19 on Thursday in a North Star League game.
Shelby Satkowiak added 10 points for the Thunderbolts and Kelsey Frazho added eight points and seven rebounds.
Rogers City goes 1-1 in Mio
MIO-The Rogers City wrestling team went 1-1 at a StraitsArea Tri-Meet with Mio and Onaway on Wednesday, beating the Cardinals 51-24, but losing to the Thunderbolts 42-39.
Double winners for Rogers City were: Grant Popur (135); Evan Lamb (140) which included a four-second pin; Jared LaFleche (171), Caleb Pommerenke (189) and Sage Sawyer (285).
Single winners for the Hurons were: Tommy Vogelheim (103), Jacob Sobeck (130), Blake Fessler (152), Daniel Pflug (160) and Corey Schaedig (215).
Rogers City will compete at the Northern Michigan Championships in Gaylord on Saturday.
JOHANNESBURG-The Onaway boys basketball team earned its second win in as many nights, topping Johannesburg-Lewiston 72-57 on Wednesday.
Carlos Bautista had a double-double for Onaway (8-3, 6-3 Ski Valley), scoring 16 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. He was one of four Onaway players in double figures as Rich Hoff added 15 points, Andrew Prow had 14 and Joe Sigsby chipped in with 11 points.
Onaway trailed 18-17 after one quarter of play, but outscored JoBurg 20-8 in the second quarter and 18-11 in the third quarter. JoBurg edged Onaway 20-17 in the final period, but it wasn’t enough to make up the deficit.
Rogers City improves to 10-0
ST. IGNACE- The Rogers City girls bowling team picked up two wins last weekend in St. Ignace to improve to 10-0 in the Northern Michigan Bowling Conference.
The Hurons started the day with a 18-12 win over St. Ignace. Rogers City won two baker games (307-216), but was edged in two regular games 1378-1297. Jessica Butera led the Hurons with a 288 in two games. Single game scores for the Hurons included Anna Lehman (127), Rebecca Bannasch (154), Nicole Bannasch (128), Ashley Budnik (137), Jill Flanagan (91), Alana Wirgau (117), Adrianna Selke (110) and Becca Meyer (145).
Rogers City wrapped up the day with a convincing 21.5-8.5 win over Gaylord. The Blue Devils topped the Hurons in two baker games (353-307), but Rogers City took two regular games 1579-1415. Butera paced the Hurons with 359 in two games and Nicole Bannasch finished with 316. Rogers City’s single-game scorers included Lehman (159), Rebecca Bannasch (168), Budnik (129), Meyer (135), Selke (168) and Wirgau (145).
