Catholic community going through transition

Four Catholic parishes were viable in years past. Not today. History, current circumstances and future projections have been considered. Many faithful servants have given countless hours toward studying options. Sadly, I have heard that there are some young persons among us who are disgruntled and blaming what they perceive to be totally negative, on, of all people, our priests. Shame on you.

Fr. Schaeffer and Fr. Gerald are not making these decisions. They are to be thanked for being here for us. If we had our four separate parishes intact, functioning as the old normal; but had no priest, we would have no parish. We need our priests to pray with us, lead us in our liturgies, guide us in our spiritual walk.

Fr. Schaeffer and Fr. Gerald will be reassigned elsewhere one day. I, for one, would like them to remember Alpena as being loving and supportive.

Please, let us put our time and effort toward praising God and thanking HIm. He has allowed us to live where we have the freedom to worship. Poor economy and apathy for our spiritual well-being has gotten us inn this position. Let us rely on Jesus Christ, our foundation and our Rock. Let us unite, not divide.

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:9-11 “For we are partners working together for God, and you are God’s field. You are also God’s building. Using the gift that God gave me, I did the work of an expert builder and laid the foundation, and another man is building it. But each one must be careful how he builds. For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and only Foundation and no other foundation can be laid.”
