Hillman receives Beating the Odds award

HILLMAN – Hillman Community Schools Superintendent Shawn Olson said Hillman Elementary once again was chosen as a Beating the Odds school. The Michigan Department of Education selects Michigan schools that are success stories, despite having traditional barriers that could hinder academic achievement.

“Our school was chosen because our achievement exceeds expectations or predictions based on the geographic characteristics of the schools and students,” she said.

While celebrating the district’s academic achievement, the board of education approved hiring two varsity football coaches and a JV volleyball coach to move the district forward in sports. Bill Koenig and Troy Smith will be varsity football coaches and Jessica Tebo will coach JV volleyball.
