Hillman girls improve?NSL standings with huge win over Hale

HILLMAN-The Hillman girls hosted the?Hale Eagles on Wednesday and beat them handily 78-14.

The first quarter saw Hillman pull ahead 19-6. The first half ended with Hale scoring only one additional point while Hillman scored almost 30 to increase their lead to 47-7.

Hillman head coach?John Kuzewski contributed his team’s strong first half to a successful full court press.

“We had a full court press going most of the first half which put a lot of pressure on the other team,”?he said.

The third quarter saw Hiilman increase score 15 more points to Hale’s two to increase the lead to 62-9. Hale finished stronger in the fourth quarter with five points but Hillman was still able to score 16 to win the game 78-14.

Top scorers for Hillman included Jensen Tchorzynski with 27 points, Morgan Hardies with 15 and?Katelyn Kenyon with 10. The JV team won earlier in the night.

This win puts Hillman at 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the Noth Star League. They play in Augres on Friday

Onaway 54,

Mancelona 19

MANCELONA-Onaway travelld to?Mancelona on Wednesday where they took a quick lead and defeated Mancelona 54-19.

The first quarter saw Onaway take a 20 point lead at 22-2. Onaway finished the half with 33 points while Mancelona finished with 7.

The third quarter saw Onaway increase their lead to 45-11 and they finished the game with a final score of 54-19.

Onaway head coach Marty Mix attributed his team’s success to staying prepared during Christmas break.

“We prepared a lot over Christmas break, more than they maybe wanted to, but it’s the kind of thing you have to do to get better and get these kinds of big wins,” he said.

Leading scorers included Kallie Schimel with 16.?Megan Estep had 16 rebounds.

The JV also won with a score of 48-10 with Lexi Szymoniak leading the team with 17 points.

Onaway is now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Sky?Valley Conference. Their next game is against?Pellston in Onaway.
